Map Pool Updates
In Patch 12.08, the VALORANT map rotation has changed:
- Ascent is now available in Competitive and Deathmatch queues.
- Bind has been removed from Competitive and Deathmatch queues.
This change gives players a refreshed competitive experience and brings Ascent back into regular ranked play.
New Limited-Time Mode: Skirmish Ascension
The biggest highlight of VALORANT Patch 12.08 is Skirmish: Ascension, a new limited-time ranked mode designed for fast, skill-focused matches.
Skirmish: Ascension keeps gunplay as the main focus while adding selected Agent abilities to create more tactical decisions. Players can choose from a curated roster of Agents, each equipped with only one ability, and compete through staged weapon rounds in either 1v1 or 2v2 matches.
Players can also climb the FTW ranked ladder, earn rewards, and compare their performance across separate 1v1 and 2v2 leaderboards.
Skirmish Ascension Mode Details
Agents and Abilities
Skirmish: Ascension includes 14 Agents, each with one selected ability:
- Jett — Tailwind
- Waylay — Refract
- Chamber — Rendezvous
- Cypher — Cyber Cage
- Omen — Shrouded Step
- Phoenix — Curve Ball
- Yoru — Fakeout
- Iso — Contingency
- Sage — Barrier Orb
- Raze — Blast Pack
- Vyse — Arc Rose
- KAY/O — Flash/Drive
- Breach — Flashpoint
- Veto — Crosscut
This limited ability setup makes each duel easier to understand while still allowing players to make smart plays with timing, positioning, and utility.
Staged Weapons
There is no economy system in Skirmish: Ascension. Instead, weapons progress by round stage:
- Rounds 1–4: Pistols, including Bandit and Sheriff
- Rounds 5–8: Low-tier rifles, including Guardian and Bulldog
- Round 9 and beyond: Vandal and Phantom
This format keeps the pace fast and allows players to focus more on aim, movement, and decision-making.
Queues and Match Structure
Skirmish: Ascension supports both 1v1 and 2v2 queues, with separate matchmaking for each mode.
The match structure is simple:
- 1v1 and 2v2 queues are separate
- First to 10 rounds wins
- 1v1 and 2v2 leaderboards are tracked independently
- Rankings are segmented by server, region, and platform
FTW Ranked Ladder
Skirmish: Ascension includes a competitive FTW ranked ladder. Players can climb through different rank tiers based on their performance.
Rank Tiers
- Iron: 0 points
- Bronze: 700 points
- Silver: 1100 points
- Gold: 1500 points
- Platinum: 1800 points
- Diamond: 2100 points
- Ascendant: 2400 points
- Immortal: 2700 points
- Radiant: Top 100
This gives players a clear goal to chase during the limited-time event.
Skirmish Ascension Rewards
Players can earn rewards by participating in Skirmish: Ascension and reaching specific milestones.
Match Completion Rewards
- Complete 3 Skirmish: Ascension matches: Combat Ready Player Card
- Complete 15 Skirmish: Ascension matches: Trade Me Player Card
Rank-Based Titles

- Diamond to Immortal: Skirmish Expert
- Radiant: Skirmish Legend
These rewards make the mode more meaningful for players who enjoy competitive challenges and limited-time events.
Limited-Time Mode Update
Knockout is leaving the limited-time mode rotation in Patch 12.08. Players who enjoyed Knockout can now jump into Skirmish: Ascension for a new competitive experience.
